Morristown High School Has Tips To Make Your Giving Day FTK® A Huge Success!

Published

Morristown HS, a first year Mini-THON, truly embraced #GivingTuesday earlier this year. As a result, they activated many of their students in online fundraising and raised a whopping $5000 in just one day! Their insight and success can be a great guide for getting your school involved in Four Diamonds’ Giving Day FTK, coming up on March 4th, 2021. Read on to learn a little more about their preparation for #GivingTuesday.

Giving Tuesday is a nationally recognized day that celebrates generosity and philanthropy. It brings the efforts of amazing organizations to the spotlight, including Four Diamonds and many others. At Morristown High School, our first step to making the most out of this day was having our club members sign up and become familiar with DonorDrive. Our committee leaders and chairs held a meeting to walk through DonorDrive step-by-step, which helped everyone become familiar and comfortable with this application. We had about 50 members signed up for a Donor Drive account by #GivingTuesday.

*Pro tip: It’s important to have everyone signed up for DonorDrive as early as possible in the year, especially if this is your first year participating in Mini-THON like us.

The day before #GivingTuesday, we took the time to explore the resources available on FTK Nation and downloaded many of the #GivingTuesday social media graphics. This way, on #GivingTuesday, we had a lineup of posts ready to go on our Mini-THON Instagram as well as our personal social media accounts. We promoted donations to our DonorDrive by reposting the graphics and including the link to our DonorDrive pages as much as we could. We also encouraged everyone in our club to reach out to relatives and friends asking for donations.

*Pro tip: When emailing friends and family it’s important to express a well-understood explanation of what Mini-THON represents and what your role is in Mini-THON, and where the money is going.

Our key takeaways

  1. The most important takeaway from this fundraiser is that no donation is too small. While we are extremely thankful for the large and beyond generous donations from family members, it’s important to be just as appreciative for the small donations because those will add up.
  2. Being prepared with social media posts that are aesthetically pleasing and purposeful can be very successful in reaching a large audience. Starting this process a few days or even a week before the fundraiser will be the most beneficial and will allow for more posts to go up. If people see something on Instagram numerous times, they eventually will check it out!
  3. We recommend promoting the fundraiser on your Mini-THON social media pages, personal social media pages, as well as any platforms that your school uses to advertise school-related information, all with the goal of reaching as many people as possible.

Hopefully, our experience can be a guide to you for future push weeks and giving days!
